In 2013, Tim D. Castle established the UNCITRAL National Coordination Committee for Australia (UNCCA), and is currently Chair of the Committee.
Established in 1966, the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL) develops model laws and conventions that form an essential part of the legal framework for global trade. UNCITRAL is often best known in Australia for its Arbitration Model Law which is used across the globe as the basis for settling international disputes. The Model Law also provides the foundation for Australia’s International Arbitration Act 1974 (Cth).
The membership of the UNCCA comprises leading legal practitioners and academics from around Australia interested in the work of UNCITRAL. As of December 2015, UNCCA has facilitated our members attending all six UNCITRAL working group meetings as observers in conjunction with LAWASIA, has conducted a number of seminars and roundtables, and has actively engaged with Government and other stakeholders in relation to the ratification by Australia of the Electronic Commerce Convention and the Mauritius Convention.
